Sotheby's Hong Kong 2010 Spring Watches Auction

Sotheby's Hong Kong Important Watch Spring Sale 2010 will take place on April 7 at the Hong Kong Convention and & Exhibition Centre.

This spring, Sotheby's Hong Kong will offer some exceptional timepieces. Approximately 330 pieces and valued at HK$35 million ($4.48 million) will auction out under the hammer.

There are some standout pieces up for auction. Leading the sale will be a Limited Edition A. Lange & Söhne pink gold tourbillon wristwatch (above) with power reserve indication, chain and fusée and bracelet, Tourbillon “Pour Le Mérite” circa 1996, 117/150. only 15 were ever made in pink gold and it holds an estimated value of HK$1-1.5 million ($129-194,000). The Tourbillon “Pour Le Mérite” features a complex chain-and-fusée mechanism that is arguably one of the finest tourbillon's ever produced.

Another highlight will be Patek Philippe's platinum and diamond set split seconds perpetual calendar chronography wristwatch with calendar, moonphases and leap-year indication, circa 2007, Ref.5004P. Comprising 407 parts, it is the most complicated watch in Patek's line of chronographs. This timepiece is still factory sealed and is expected to sell for HK$1.6-2 million ($207,000-258,000).

Aside from Pateks on sale, also catching the eye will be a titanium tonneau-form of tourbillon wristwatch by Richard Mille, the preeminent independent watch maker. With a power reserve and torque indication RM002, it's valued between HK$ 640,000 – 800,000 ($82,500 – 104,000).

Sotheby's Hong Kong will also introduce bidding online that using live video and audio feed. This service was first launched at Sotheby's New York in 2009.
