What's the dangers affect of alcohol for Baby's Health?

A new Canadian study suggests that the alcohol in the womb can alter a child's developing pain regulatory system.

"Our study had three key findings," Tim F. Oberlander, a professor in the developmental pediatrics division at the BC Children's Hospital, the Child and Family Research Institute and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, said in a news release.

"First, in alcohol-exposed newborns, physiological responses to the heel lance, such as heart rate and parts of the nervous system that controls heart rate, were blunted or dampened compared to infants with little or no alcohol exposure," Oberlander said.

"Second, we observed that, in response to this painful event, the stress hormone cortisol decreased in exposed infants while [remaining] almost unchanged in our control group. Finally, we looked at behavioral responses. Using very specific measures of facial expressions ... we found no differences between the two groups. However, using a measure of behavioral responsiveness ... we found that the exposed infants were less aroused."

Researchers assessed 28 newborns -- 14 whose mothers drank heavily during pregnancy and 14 whose mothers were light drinkers or abstainers. The children exposed to alcohol in the womb showed a "blunted response" to painful heel-lance blood collection.

It's believed the blunted response seen in alcohol-exposed infants may result from the effects of alcohol on a child's developing pain regulatory system.

"What these findings mean for long-term development and behavior of children is unknown at this point," Oberlander said. "However, we do know that altered stress regulation early in life can set up risk and vulnerability for poor mental and physical health and social and academic failure across the life span. In this sense, we think our findings may reflect a first glimpse at how prenatal alcohol exposure might 'calibrate' or 'program' emerging stress systems in early life."

At last, for our children's health, pay attention to your habits and far away from the alcohol.

Nine best globes hair and makeup for super star

Best fake-out style

Sandra Bullock is having a long hair moment, but you wouldn't know it from this chin-length look created by Frederic Fekkai celebrity stylist Adir Abergel. We love the unexpected asymmetrical cluster, and the way a single daring tendril added a playful, girlish touch.

Best pink lipstick

Pink lipstick can sometimes feel like an afterthought, but Olivia Wilde got the shade exactly right: A vivid peony hue with a satiny, opaque finish. (We also give extra points for earthy smoky eyes, and a glam '70s-inspired ponytail.)

Best frosty lips

Bohemian Kate Hudson is not one to layer on the makeup, but that doesn't mean she can't rock it out when she needs to. "Golden Globes makeup is all about the dress," said her makeup artist, Leslie Lopez. "When I saw Kate in her gorgeous white dress, I knew we had to go for sophisticated, pretty, and Grace Kelly-inspired look." The key to those radiant lips? Chanel Aqualumiere Sheer Colour Lipshine in Malta. "It's the perfect sheer and subtle peach," says Lopez.

Best up-do

Lea Michele has gorgeous raven hair-and tons of it. We love the way this low, textured updo, created by stylist Miok, showed-off that volume, rather than tucking it away. The off-the-neck cluster also showcased her sculpted cheeks and lush eyelashes; the deep side part added a retro twist.

Best jeweled accessory

We'll be honest-sometimes well-defined waves can feel too formal for our taste. Rose Byrne's waves were one part crimp and one part curl, with equal portions of softness and shape. The pin-straight part kept things from getting too unruly, and of course, her sparkly barrette was, ahem, icing on the cake.

Best colored shadow

Shots of color on the eyes always feels like a bold move, but not when you choose a soft and subtle lavender shade like Emily Blunt. "Emily wore a pink frilly dress, so we wanted the makeup to be beautiful, soft and feminine," says Dior makeup artist Jenn Streicher, who created the look. The makeup artist blended aubergine and silvery shadows around the star's eyes, followed with black mascara, and kept the lips a glossy, barely-there pink.

Best headband

A style as adorable as January Jones's is all about the prep-work. "I started by applying a small amount of Moroccanoil Oil Treatment to January's damp hair before blow-drying with a roundbrush," said her stylist, Mark Townsend. "It gives the hair an amazing shine and finish." He then gathered the hair into a French twist, pinned it in place, and finished with a wide satin headband. "I thought it added a chic, modern touch," says Townsend. We couldn't agree more.

Best rosy cheeks

Christina Hendricks's look was a study in contrasts: shiny strawberry lips paired with bare eyes, sheer stained cheeks on top of matte alabaster skin. The overall result? Ultra-feminine and timelessly appealing.

Best classic look

Drew Barrymore is the ultimate beauty chameleon-raspberry lips, sooty eyes, black tips, anyone? But this look created by makeup artist Debra Ferullo was clean, precise, and every bit as striking as even her wildest risks. We love the understated sophistication of minimal eye makeup, fresh porcelain skin, and silky, rosy lips.

Lush lashes, beachy waves, and pink lips — Rolex replica watch store picks the show’s very best looks. Which one would you like ?

115-Year-Old Motorcycle fetch up to £60,000

One of the first motorcycles ever built is to be auctioned by Bonhams. The historic piece of kit was built by Hildebrand & Wolfmuller in Munich around 1895, and it is expected to fetch up to £60,000.

A spokeswoman for Bonhams described it as "the find of the decade." She added: "This wonderful machine represents the ultimate acquisition for the serious private collector or any museum devoted to the history of powered transport and is estimated at £40,000 – 60,000."

With a top speed of 30mph, critical opinion suggests perhaps only 800 of them were ever made. It was large engined for its time and could produce 1488cc.

Fascinatingly, it was the first bike to ever attract the label of 'motorcycle', which stems from the German word 'motorrad'. The contraption was last ridden way back in the 1930s.

Correct your 6 Health Mistakes

The little things you can fix right now to keep your body healthy and happy in the long run.

MISTAKE 1: Quitting antidepressants cold turkey.
Maybe you're feeling good again, but abruptly abandoning them could saddle you with flulike symptoms, insomnia, nausea, and a blue mood for at least a week — a problem called "discontinuation syndrome."

THE SOLUTION: Don't give up. "If you're feeling better, it means your antidepressant is working," says Dr. Nada Stotland, president of the American Psychiatric Association. If you must stop, alert your doc and taper off slowly (e.g., reduce your dose by one-fourth every two weeks). And if depression creeps back at any point, resume your full medication.

MISTAKE 2: Dropping pounds with diet drinks.
A University of Texas Health Science Center study found that people who sipped one diet soda a day for seven years were 41 percent more likely to be overweight than non-soda drinkers. The reason: Diet drinks often lead to overeating as people "spend" the calories they just saved on a second slice of pizza or a cookie. There's also evidence that artificial sweeteners may whet your appetite for more sweets.

THE SOLUTION: Sip water, coffee, or unsweetened tea. If you crave a sweet taste, add a half teaspoon of sugar (just 7 calories) or natural agave syrup (10 calories) to coffee or tea. If plain water is too bland for you, try a flavored unsweetened water.

MISTAKE 3: Popping extra acetaminophen.
The label says "650 milligrams every four to six hours," so wouldn't a little more kick the pain faster? "Acetaminophen is misused because it's considered 'safe and mild,'" says Dr. Anne M. Larson, of the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Exceeding the recommended dosage can lead to liver damage or even failure and kills about 100 people each year.

THE SOLUTION: Stick with the advised dose. And don't mix acetaminophen with other drugstore remedies. "Nearly all over-the-counter cold, flu, sinus, and allergy remedies also contain acetaminophen," Larson says, as do some menstrual-cramp formulas and prescription painkillers like Vicodin, Darvocet, and Percocet. If you're unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

MISTAKE 4: Skipping the second opinion on a major condition.
It could alert you to alternatives your first doctor never mentioned or even correct a dangerous misdiagnosis. The best plan is to find an experienced doctor affiliated with a different hospital or practice.

THE SOLUTION: Sign up for an online consultation service. Try the Cleveland Clinic's MyConsult (eclevelandclinic.org) or Johns Hopkins University's Remote Medical Second Opinion (jhintl.org/for-patients).

MISTAKE 5: Getting too tipsy.
Sure, a drink a day helps keep your heart healthy. But downing your week's quota on the weekend is a bad plan, a University of Buffalo study says. Getting tipsy just once a month triples heart-disease risk. Says Suzanne Thomas, Ph.D., of the Medical University of South Carolina's Charleston Alcohol Research Center: "Alcohol is especially toxic for women because we're smaller, we have more body fat [which processes alcohol more quickly than muscle], and we have lower levels of stomach enzymes that metabolize alcohol than men do."

THE SOLUTION: Start off the evening with club soda. And save the wine for dinner. That way, the food in your stomach slows the absorption of alcohol. Thomas also stretches her drinks: "I'll befriend the bartender and ask for one serving of gin in three separate glasses with tonic over the course of the night. That's three drinks — but only an ounce of alcohol." Wine spritzers also do the trick. Just don't forget to tip.

MISTAKE 6: Forgoing a follow-up.
Fear and inconvenience prevent 30 to 50 percent of women from getting additional checks if a Pap test (a cervical-cancer screening) reveals suspicious-looking cells. But catching cervical cancer in its earliest stages boosts your odds for survival to 92 percent; allowing cancer to spread drops your chances to 39 percent or lower.

THE SOLUTION: Check in with your doc right away. If your Pap revealed only slightly unusual cells, you may just need another visit in four to six months to test for cancer-causing strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). If the follow-up results are negative, resume with your regular annual routine.

For 20 ways to get healthy hair

Celebrity stylists reveal the tricks that keep their hair looking so gorgeous.

Avoid serum overload
The right amount depends on your hair texture. Use these guidelines from hairstylist Tippi Shorter: Fine hair: If you have fine or thin hair, never use more than a dime-size amount. Medium hair: If you have medium hair, a nickel-size amount will be sufficient. Thick hair: For thick hair, you'll need to use a quarter-size amount.

Erase your mistake
A little heavy-handed with your product? Kimberly Kimble explains how to fix it:Serum: Wipe it off with a plush towel — the cotton will absorb the excess.Gel: Apply water with a spray bottle to dilute the gel in your hair. Then blow-dry the area and start from the beginning.Hairspray: Let it dry, then spritz a little shine spray on top to loosen up the stiffness of the alcohol in the hairspray.Pomade: There's no going back. Work with it by changing your style to a pulled-back ponytail or chignon.

Shower sans shampoo
"The natural oil in your scalp is the best conditioner you can get, so wash your hair every two or three days rather than daily. After a workout, shower as usual, but instead of shampooing, just wet the hair and massage your scalp with your fingers." — Mark Townsend

Use beer for brightening
Lemon and beer keep blond hair from fading in the summer. Simply squeeze a lemon into a glass of beer, then pour it over hair. Let it soak for five minutes while sitting in the sun, then shampoo and condition. Do this weekly to brighten color. — Oscar Blandi

Swap your elastics
"Bungee elastics are perfect for creating damage-free ponytails that don't fall or loosen. Unlike regular hair elastics, you don't have to pull hair through them, which makes your hair less prone to snags. The hook closures give you the control to make them as tight as you like." — celebrity hairstylist Staci Child

Cool your conditioner
"Leave conditioner in the fridge to keep it cool. This way, it will instantly seal the cuticles because it's already at a low temperature." — celebrity hairstylist Tippi Shorter

Apply product strategically
"Where you should apply product depends on texture. For fine hair, concentrate volumizers near the root for body and lift. For other textures, don't start at the top of your head or with your bangs because too much styling or smoothing product there will weigh down your hair." — celebrity hairstylist Kiyah Wright

Rinse, then rinse again
"The key to a sleek, shiny finish is a thorough cleansing. Take the time to rinse well — leftover oils, dirt and products make hair look dull and lifeless. A clean canvas ensures a great style." — celebrity hairstylist David Babaii

Plump up fine hair
"Mousse is great for adding volume to fine hair. Apply it only to the roots — to avoid making hair appear stringy — then hold hair vertically and blast with heat to seal in volume." — celebrity hairstylist Richard Marin

Fix fly-aways
"Spritz holding spray onto a natural-bristle eyebrow brush. Use it to lock unruly hairs into place around your part, hairline and above the ears." — celebrity hairstylist Mark Townsend

Butter up brittle strands
To moisturize dry hair, apply organic almond butter to the parched areas. Let the butter soak in for 30 minutes, then shampoo and rinse well. — David Babaii

Dry curls like a pro
"Blow-drying curly hair can be tricky. The key is to keep your blow-dryer on the lowest setting and direct the air downward to prevent frizz. Want more definition? Once it's completely dry, set your hair in large, heated rollers, tucking the hair under and rolling upward instead of outward. Leave the rollers in for 20 minutes and then run your fingers through your hair to create loose, flowing curls." — celebrity hairstylist Frederic Fekkai

Beat the bends
Hold loose strands back while applying your makeup with a duckbill clip. Place a folded tissue (or a business card) between your hair and the clip to prevent creases. — Tippi Shorter

Speed up your blowout
Celebrity hairstylist Oscar Blandi gives his top three tips for reducing your blow-drying time:- Divide your hair into three sections: left, right and back.- Use the nozzle attachment on the end of your blow-dryer. It focuses the air directly on your hair.- Blast the back section with cool air and finish blow-drying in the front. Why? Hot air opens the hair shaft, causing it to dry less quickly.

Score pin-straight strands
Using a flatiron will keep your hair straighter for much longer than blow-drying alone. The heat and pressure combined with the technology in the iron's plates seal hair cuticles and eliminate frizz. If you have fine hair, you'll want to set your iron between 410 and 425 degrees — you don't need as much heat as thicker hair textures do. If you have curly or coarse hair, your locks can handle up to 475 degrees. Always use a thermal protective spray before flatironing, no matter what your hair type. — celebrity hairstylist Kimberly Kimble

Dry, don't fry
"For a damage-free blowout, set your blow-dryer to medium heat. Newer dryers can go up to 3,000 watts. That much heat could cause breakage." — celebrity hairstylist Oribe

Touch up a blowout
A ceramic heating comb has tiny teeth that are great for smoothing out curly hair. When you need your blowout to last another day or two, use it to straighten fuzzy strands around your roots and the hairline. — Tippi Shorter

Condition with care
"The scalp's natural oils condition, so keep conditioner away from your roots when washing hair to avoid weighing down your locks. To be safe, start applying it at least three or four inches away from your scalp." — Mark Townsend

Double up
"A lavender-scented wax stick imparts both polished and piece-y strands. Use a dab on your fingertips to smooth around the hairline or to create styles with a rock-and-roll texture. Just be sure not to use too much, or your hair will get greasy."

Updating your hair color? Update your lipstick
Kiyah Wright suggests switching your lip color so the new shades work together. Here are her perfect pairings:Blond: Blond hair looks great with pastel-pink lip hues, as well as rich, tomato-y reds.Redhead: Red is a bold hair color, so use rosy lipsticks and lip stains that match your natural lip color.Brunette: Plum, nude and sheer lip tones all work best with dark hair.

Pay Attention to Your Sleeping Habits

According to a recent study by the National Sleep Foundation, it is estimated 65 percent of Americans said they encounter sleep problems a few nights each week. Sleeping too little is linked with an increased risk for obesity and depression. It’s worth re-examining your nighttime routine and change them. Some of your favorite evening rituals could be responsible for that tossing and turning.

Going from Night Owl to Early Bird

Who says bedtime is just for kids? Take extra care to maintain your sleep schedule, especially on the weekends. The body responds to routine. If your bedtime is sporadic—11 p.m. some nights, 1 a.m. others—your mind won't be properly prepared to snooze on the weekdays.

Bringing Books to Bed

Reading before bed is a habit for many. Problem is, your body has likely adapted to that routine—it won't go to sleep until you've logged a couple chapters. The bed should be off limits for anything other than sleep.

Facebooking into the Wee Hours

The brightness of your computer screen stimulates the brain. Plus, it's difficult for your mind to stop fretting about your digital to-do list, even after you've logged off. Avoid late-night surfing and shut down your computer. Give yourself time to wind down without any electronics.

Setting a Bright Alarm Clock

The looming glare of your alarm clock can be distracting when trying to sleep. Block the bright numbers with a book or consider buying a small travel clock. Your cell phone alarm may also do the trick.

Exercising Late at Night

Daytime workouts will keep you invigorated for hours. That's why you don't want to exercise within three hours of hitting the sack. Intense physical activity raises your body temperature and pumps your energy level—both interrupt a calm transition into sleep.

Counting Sheep

When you just can't fall asleep, it's useless to stay in bed. An activity that demands marginal brainpower will lull your mind. If you've been trying to fall asleep for more than 30 minutes, the National Sleep Foundation suggests doing something mundane, like balancing a checkbook, reading or watching TV.

Skimping on a Good Bed

A good mattress will cost you anywhere from $500 to more than $3,000. Consider it money well spent. A decent mattress—do your homework!—will give you a more restful sleep. The same is true for quality bedding and pillows. Buy a firmer pillow if you sleep on your side.
